Current State

The immediate condition of a process, operation or system before planned correction or improvement. Current state is how things actually work right now. It is a term that is common in operational improvement methods and is often used along with the phrase, Future State.

When we are work on process improvement we describe the Current State as the ‘As Is’ or baseline condition, and where we expect to be after improvement occurs as the future state or the ‘To Be’.

Current State and Future State are jargon terms used in the application of operational excellence tools and techniques; especially process mapping.
