As Is

As Is means the current state of some thing. For example, a process, organization, situation, etc. It designates the way things are right now. It is a term that is common in operational improvement methods and is often used along with the phrase: To Be.

When we are working on process improvement we describe the As Is; the current state or baseline condition.  And, where we expect to be after improvement occurs; To Be or future state.

As Is and To Be are jargon terms used in the application of operational excellence tools and techniques; especially process mapping.
